If you're a City Auditioner who's arrived in New York or LA within the last three years, chances are, you will audition for this show, if you haven't already. To be perfectly honest, I don't quite understand why people love Grease to the extent that they do, but regardless, it's a staple of regional and stock theatres across the nation, and it trots across Broadway every few years. You should have a song for it. Check out our previous post, Audition Inspiration: 50s /60s Rock or Motown Musical, for even more fabulous ideas.
1. "One Boy" from Bye Bye Birdie
2. "I Can Hear the Bells" from Hairspray
3. "What Do I Need With Love" from Thoroughly Modern Millie
4. "Hundreds of Girls" from Mack and Mabel
"Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley
"You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore
"Frank Mills" from Hair
"Brand New You" from 13
"Where the Boys Are" by Connie Francis
"I Can't Stand Still" from Footloose
"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond
"Wake Up Little Susie" by the Everly Brothers
I can't believe that June is nearly over, especially since I'm due to have a baby-- my second!-- in early July. This means that I'll have to take a break from The City Audition for the foreseeable future.
You haven't experienced it yet, but this business is awful.
I went down the Fosse rabbit hole the other night on You Tube. "Rich Man's Frug" had shuffled up on my iPhone, and I realized I needed a Fosse fix. Fosse, the revue, isn't done that often anymore, but this list of audition songs will work for just about any Fosse show.
